Start with one moment, not the whole person
Do not try to write about everything they are.
Pick one night. One trip. One habit that makes you smile.
One moment is easier to write. It also feels more real.
A song about "my mom, who is amazing" is hard to picture. A song about the night she drove two hours to bring you soup is easy to picture.
Collect five details
Write down five small things:
- Their name
- A place you shared
- A phrase they always say
- Something they do without noticing
- A thing only the two of you would get
These details are your gold. Rhymes are easy to find. Details are not.
Spend your time here. This is the part that makes the song theirs.
Find the chorus first
Ask yourself: what is the one sentence I would say to them in person?
Write it in plain words.
That sentence is your chorus.
You will repeat it, so make it short. Aim for under ten words.
Say it out loud. If it sounds fake, change it until it sounds like you.
Keep the rhymes simple
End lines with easy words.
Do not force a rhyme.
If a rhyme fights the truth, drop the rhyme.
Truth beats clever every time.
Short lines are easier to sing. Long lines are easier to trip over.
A simple shape
- Verse one: the moment
- Chorus: the feeling
- Verse two: the detail
- Chorus again
That is all you need. Most songs people love are not complicated.
Two ways to do it
You can write it yourself. You will need a tune and a voice.
Or you can let Melomi do the heavy part.
You talk. You say who it is for and the details above.
Melomi turns it into lyrics, vocals, and cover art, in a few minutes.
Listening is free. Making songs needs a Melomi subscription.
A tiny example
Say the moment is the night your dad fixed your car in the rain.
Detail one: his name, Sam. Detail two: the garage light that never worked. Detail three: his line, "It is only a car."
Chorus: "You fixed more than a car that night."
Verse one: the rain, the flashlight, his wet sleeves.
See how little it takes? Three details and one sentence carry the whole song.
Common mistakes
Too many ideas. Pick one.
Too much about you. It is their song.
Too many big words. Use the words you really say.
Saying "always" and "never." These feel false fast.
Check the facts
Read every line before you share it.
Check names, places, and dates.
Fix anything that is not true.
A song with one wrong detail can feel fake. A song with true details feels like a hug.
Share it
Send the song as a gift link by text.
They open it in a browser. No app. No account.
Then be nearby, or call. The best part is watching them hear it.
